Server Name

The server name is used to connect to the server. Choose a name that's unique and easy to remember.

Click the Change button to change the name of the server. Keep in mind that common names may already be in use at the Rendezvous.

Open at startup

Check this box to automatically open SpeedShare Pro Server when the Mac is started up.

When this box is checked, an alias to SpeedShare Pro Server is placed in the Startup Items folder, inside the System Folder.

Please note that the Start server when opened box must be checked in order for the server to accept connections immediately after startup.

Start server when opened

Check this box to start the server when the SpeedShare application is opened. Normally, this box should be checked. Leave it unchecked when you want to control when the server is available to make connections, or when the server is set to start automatically at a particular time.

Owner name

The owner has full access to all disks available on the Desktop, including mounted file servers. If the owner name is not filled in, no one can connect as the owner.

Owner password

The owner password must be supplied by anyone connecting to the server with the owner name. If the owner password is not filled in, no one can connect as the owner.

Require owner password to open Preferences

Check this box to make it necessary to enter the Owner Password before the Preferences can be viewed. Remember to close the Preferences window to protect the current settings of the server.

Allow remote Restart

Check this box to allow the owner to restart the Mac remotely. This function is available only to the owner; no other users or Guests can restart the server.

Open files in other applications may prevent the Mac from restarting, if the application asks whether to save or discard changes, and no one is available to dismiss the dialog.

Allow remote Shut Down

Check this box to allow the owner to shut down the Mac remotely. This function is available only to the owner; no other users or Guests can shut down the server.

Open files in other applications may prevent the Mac from shutting down, if the application asks whether to save or discard changes, and no one is available to dismiss the dialog.

Register with Qdea Rendezvous

Check this box to allow users to connect to the server using the Qdea Worldwide Rendezvous. Using the Rendezvous makes it possible to connect to a server by name, rather than TCP/IP address.

Leave this box unchecked if all users will connect to your server with the TCP/IP address of the server.

Play a sound when a connection is made

Check this box to play a sound when a connection is made to the server. Use the popup menu to choose the sound.
